Manchester United are plotting an explosive “hijack” for Igor Tyjon with frontrunners Arsenal struggling to close a deal for the 17-year-old wonderkid, according to the latest reports.
Striking Sensation
The Blackburn Rovers forward is considered one of the best prospects in England after his rapid rise through the ranks at Ewood Park.
Tyjon broke into Blackburn’s U-21 side at just 15 years old, and he has regularly been named amongst the senior matchday squads over the last two seasons. His first team debut came in September 2024 against Bristol City.
The England U-18 international was handed a surprise start earlier this season by Valerien Ismael as Rovers fell to a 2-1 defeat to Bradford, but he has not featured since.
The French manager explained Tyjon’s absence in a recent interview, revealing the youngster had rejected offers to “extend his contract” with the club, and he was instead focusing on other players as a result.
“We were in discussion with him to extend his contract. He decided not to extend his contract. So for us, it’s clear that from 1st of January, he might leave the club. So that’s why we are focused now on the players who are for us, for the future.
“As I said, it’s a chance at least in that period of time to see some academy players. I think they are doing very well at the moment. They really help us to bridge the gap until the players come back from injury.”
Tyjon’s scholarship deal — signed in July 2024 — will expire at the end of the season, with a host of the Premier League’s biggest clubs keen to secure his services.
Heavyweight Battle
The Sun reveals Arsenal are leading the charge, with the north London club having tabled “multiple bids” for the 17-year-old.
“Prem leaders Arsenal are the favourites to prize Tyjon away and had multiple bids worth over £1million rejected by Rovers since the summer of 2024.
“This month’s transfer window is the last chance for the Championship club to command a development fee for Tyjon. The striker’s scholarship terms expire at the end of the season, when Blackburn would only be due a compensation package if he joined another English side.”
But the report claims United have “joined the race” for Tyjon, with the Red Devils looking to “beat” their Premier League rival to the punch, though it is unclear whether the youngster would join the first team or the academy.
The Standard confirms this “hijack” attempt by INEOS, who have prioritised signing the best young talent across world football since taking the helm at Old Trafford. In fact, United even raided Arsenal for Chido Obi, a move which caused anger at the Emirates given how highly rated the 18-year-old Danish striker is.
The Sun reports the Gunners view Tyjon as a long-term replacement for Obi — which would simply be the cherry on the cake if United were able to close a deal for the Blackburn starlet.
