What a statement Bayern Munich made. After a very even first half in the first competitive game of 2026 against VFL Wolfsburg, the Bavarian giants pulled away in the second half to rack up an incredible 8-1 scoreline. After the match, captain Manuel Neuer told DAZN, as captured by @iMiaSanMia, that the team was happy to start the year this way.
“It feels good. We were determined to start the new year well at home – and it worked out very well today. We’re happy,” Neuer said.
Winning 8-1 is a serious statement of intent and strength. What makes Bayern this strong at the moment?
“Every player is important. Everyone wants to give their all,” Neuer answered simply. “We always want to score the next goal, as you can see in the results. We should keep it up and continue this way.”
Surely Bayern cannot maintain a run of scoring eight goals in every match. But the hunger, intent and drive to keep going and bury their opponents are qualities Die Rekordmeister will want to maintain heading into a busy January schedule.
