Manchester United are nearing a final decision on who will replace Ruben Amorim until the end of the season after meeting with Michael Carrick and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
It is understood Carrick is in pole position for the interim role and an announcement is anticipated in the next 48 hours. Carrick was Solskjaer’s assistant between 2018 and 2021 and was in charge of United for three games following the Norwegian’s exit.
During this period, Bruno Fernandes enjoyed a prolific run of form as a number 10. After playing a deeper role under Amorim, the Portuguese maestro is likely to be handed the keys to the side’s attack once again.
However, United may be forced to rely on another star from next season onwards.
Bruno Fernandes disappointed with FA Cup exit
According to Fichajes, Bruno Fernandes has decided to leave Manchester United in the summer.
Brighton & Hove Albion handed United a 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford, ending their FA Cup journey in the third round. The Red Devils have been knocked out of both FA Cup and League Cup at the first hurdle for the first time in the Premier League era.
It is claimed the defeat against Brighton was the “breaking point” for Fernandes, who is starting to accept his time at United is coming to an end.
The United skipper believes United’s sporting project has “lost its way” under INEOS.
Manchester United superstar wants to play at the highest level
The 31-year-old’s contract runs until 2027 with the option of another year.
However, the Spanish outlet suggest Fernandes would be willing to “force negotiations” if United receive an attractive over.
The Portugal international is determined to compete for major titles. As such, he would prioritise moving across the continent in the summer despite serious interest from the Saudi Pro League.
It has been previously reported that Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are monitoring Fernandes.
