Real Madrid are already exploring high profile options following Xabi Alonso’s dismissal, with reports revealing that Jurgen Klopp has emerged as surprise name on Florentino Pérez’s radar.

Los Blancos confirmed on Monday that Alonso has left the club just seven month into his tenure, less than 24 hour after 3-2 defeat to Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final.

Alvaro Arbeloa has been appointed as interim head coach though the club has not clarified how long he will remain in charge.

"

According to Foot Mercato, Arbeloa’s appointment raised eyebrows in Spain with doubts over his ability to manage dressing room filled with star names and strong personalities.

Behind the scenes, however Madrid’s hierarchy already preparing for long term solution.

Several reports claim that Florentino Perez is striving to appoint more experienced figure and that Jurgen Klopp is at the top of the list of candidates.

The German coach has been linked with Madrid repeatedly since leaving Liverpool in 2024. He took up role as Red Bull’s Head of Global Soccer in January 2025 overseeing the group’s football operations including RB Leipzig and Red Bull Salzburg.

Despite this his name continues to surface whenever major European job becomes vacant. Pérez is reportedly “dreaming” of bringing Klopp to the Bernabéu.

"

Klopp’s credentials are unquestioned. During nine years at Liverpool, he delivered the club’s first league title in three decades and lifted the Champions League.

Throughout that period, links to Madrid never fully disappeared, with close associates suggesting the Bernabéu was always among his ambitions.

However Klopp’s agent previously insisted that the 58 year old is “very happy” in his Red Bull role and fully committed to it. That has not stopped speculation especially with Fabrizio Romano confirming that Klopp is “super appreciated internally” at Madrid.
