Liverpool have taken steps of late to ensure continuity in the centre-back sector.
Young defenders - Giovanni Leoni, Mor Talla Ndiaye and Noah Adekoya - are among the arrivals this season as sporting director Richard Hughes plots a way forward.
Ibrahima Konate could LEAVE the club in summer if no new contract can be agreed. Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez meanwhile are both contracted until 2027 with neither expected to remain at Anfield beyond that time.
And so that’s why transfer links with up-and-coming centre-backs make sense.
Jacobo Ramon a Serie A revelation
We’ve seen the likes of Joel Ordonez and Jeremy Jacquet linked in recent weeks ahead of potential deals in the January window or else in summer.

And now it looks like the Premier League champions are going to get involved in a complex chase for one of the game’s fastest-rising defensive stars.
Jacobo Ramon, 20, has been a revelation since swapping Real Madrid for Como in a £2m deal in summer 2025. This season the Spaniard has taken HUGE strides for Cesc Fabregas’ side - emerging as one of the best defenders in Serie A.
As a result he has been linked with an onward move to either the Premier League or LaLiga - with Madrid currently holding all the cards in Ramon’s next deal.
The defender has got an €8m buyback clause inserted in his Como deal that applies to Madrid and right now it would be foolish for the Spanish capital club not to exercise it.
Liverpool LOVE Jacobo Ramon
Even if they don’t plan on using Ramon in their first team they could flip him for a far bigger profit. And even if Madrid decline their buyback clause they will still cash in on 50 percent of any deal that takes him out of Como.
But these details have not put Liverpool off - according to a report in Caught Offside.
“Since December, Chelsea, Tottenham and Liverpool have been monitoring him closely, while Newcastle United, Brighton and Crystal Palace have also sent scouts to watch his performances firsthand,” a report reads.
“Liverpool admire his pace and composure, traits that match perfectly with their high-intensity, press-oriented defensive structure.”
Ramon - a Spain under-21 international - signed a deal with Como until 2030 but is widely expected to leave before then. This season he has played 16 times in the Italian top flight for the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia side - scoring twice.
It promises to be a massive transfer fight for one of the game’s rising stars - and we can take encouragement from the fact that Richard Hughes seems up for the battle.
