Kicker currently confirms a Sky Germany report concerning VfL Wolfsburg’s interest in Japanese striker Kento Shiogai. According to Kicker Wolfsburg correspondent Thomas Hiete, the Lower Saxon Autostädter are working intensively to acquire the NEC Nijmegen professional.

Hiete notes that “intensive” talks between the Japanese U19 international and the Bundesliga outfit have already taken place. The 20-year-old is very open to a move to Wolfsburg.

Hiete also has plenty of updates on Wolfsburg transfer rumors:

Kento Shiogai counts as a promising candidate

Shiogai’s successful season (nine goals in 14 competitive appearances) has enabled him to raise his estimated market value from €850,000 to €2.5m in the latest transfermarkt listings. While Wolfsburg do presently have financial concerns to take into account, the company club should have no problem significantly overpaying to secure Shiogai’s services.

Danilho Doekhi rumors appear unfounded

Hiete concurs with the assessment of Get German Football News as pertains to the status of the Union Berlin centre-back. It counts as highly unlikely that the 27-year-old can be persuaded to join Germany’s struggling green company team.Hiete notes that an offer has been tendered, but both player and club are not terribly interested in following through.

Wolfsburg undecided on Brentford’s Kristoffer Ajer

Wolfsburg have been linked with the Norwegian defender since this past summer.Hiete reports that the 27-year-old even recently made a trip to Wolfsburg in order to speak with club officials. It nevertheless seems as if the Bundesliga outfit wishes to explore other options for help in defense. The recent success of recent permanent signing Saël Kumbedi also renders it possible that Wolfsburg will not seek additional help at the fullback position.
