This might be Nebraska’s biggest test this season when it comes to post defense. Dana Altman’s Oregon Ducks are led in scoring by 7’0″, 220 lbs senior who is averaging 16.8 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.
Also, on that front line is Kwame Evans Jr. who is 6’10”, 220 lbs. So Oregon is coming to Lincoln tonight with a ton of size on the front lines.
Hopefully, Nebraska doesn’t go cold from the three point line tonight because this might be one of those games where the easy adjustment is to get to the rim. One thing Nebraska has going for it is that because of the skillset of Reink Mast and Berke Buyuktuncel the Oregon big men are going to have to guard on the perimeter. That should help with any attempt getting to the basket. I would not have said that going into this season regarding Berke, but that shows how much work he has put into his shot and it is a credit also to Hoiberg and his staff.
This game likely will not be any different from any game that is upcoming and left on the schedule in the fact that Nebraska could easily lose this game against Oregon. The Huskers are a 10.5 point favorite but because of the way they score the ball it leaves opportunities for the other team to punish them if they have a dry spell.
Luckily for Nebraska it is likely their defense which has actually fueled this 16-0 start. So if Oregon tries to get the ball down low expect a lot of traps from the Husker defense and it will be Nebraska’s ability to defend on the passes out of the post which might determine the game.
Or heck, they might just shoot Oregon out of the gym. Either way let’s hope that it isn’t a great homecoming for Head Coach Dana Altman.

The Huskers (16-0, 6-0 B1G) remained unbeaten following an 83-77 win at Indiana Saturday afternoon. The Huskers trailed 51-36 with 16:54 left before rallying down the stretch. NU, which outscored the Hoosiers 47-26 after Indiana took a 16-point lead, averaged 1.57 points per possession in the final 20 minutes and shot 57 percent from the field, including 8-of-16 from 3-point range. The win snapped Indiana’s 13-game home win dating back to last February.
Senior Jamarques Lawrence led NU with a career-high 27 points, setting seasons bests in field goals (eight), 3-pointers (five), rebounds (five) and steals (three) in the process. He had 16 of his 27 points after halftime. Lawrence has put together a solid senior year, averaging career bests in scoring (10.5 ppg), assists (3.6 apg), field goal percentage (.450) and 3-point percentage (.403) while posting nearly 2-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio.
The Huskers, whose 16-0 start is the best in program history, is eighth in Monday’s AP poll, matching the highest ranking in program history. NU was also ranked eighth during the 1965-66 season.
