Mexico announce squad for friendlies against Panama and Bolivia

Mexico called up 27 players to face off in the first two friendlies of 2026.

Mexico announce the squad for the Januray matches against Panama and Bolivia. Coach Javier Aguirre named 27 players in the all Liga MX list for the Non FIFA Date friendlies that will start the activity for 2026. Mexico will travel to Panama City to face the Central American team that will also play in the 2026 World Cup before traveling to Bolivia to face the host who are preparing for the 2026 World Cup International play offs in March as they look to qualify to the tournament for the first time since 1994.

The call up list was the following:

Goalkeepers: Luis Malagon (America), Raul Rangel (Chivas), Carlos Acevedo (Santos Laguna)

Defenders: Jesus Gallardo (Toluca), Richard Ledezma (Chivas), Ramon Juarez (Club America), Jorge Sanchez (Cruz Azul), Israel Reyes (America), Victor Guzman (Monterrey), Everardo Lopez (Toluca), Brayan Gonzalez (Chivas), Eduardo Aguila (San Luis)

Midfielders: Obed Vargas (Seattle Sounders), Gilberto Mora (Tijuana), Marcel Ruiz (Toluca), Erik Lira (Cruz Azul), Brian Gutierrez (Chivas), Iker Fimbres (Monterrey), Luis Romo (Chivas), Carlos Rodriguez (Cruz Azul), Kevin Castañeda (Tijuana), Denzell Garcia (FC Juarez)

Forwards: Armando Gonzalez (Chivas), German Berterame (Monterrey), Angel Sepulveda (Chivas), Diego Lainez (Tigres), Roberto Alvarado (Chivas)

The most notable call ups are Brian Gutierrez and Richard Ledezma. Both players have never played for Mexico but have done so with the United States in their youth system. While Gutierrez isn’t cap tied, Ledezma can’t play for Mexico unless he makes the OTS (One Time Switch). Ledezma played the 2019 U20 World Cup and if he plays without an OTS, it would be the same situation that happened with Alejandro Zendejas, which ended with Mexico fined and losing 2 Senior National team matches and three U23 games by default.

Mexico will be playing against Panama in Panama City in Estadio Rommel Fernandez on January 22nd. They will then travel to Bolivia where they will be facing the hosts in Estadio Ramon Tahuichi in Santa Cruz de la Sierra on January 25th.
