The Lakers star guard will miss his eighth game this season in his absence in Portland
PORTLAND --- The Los Angeles Lakers will be without star guard Luka Dončić on Saturday against the Trail Blazers because of groin soreness in his left leg, the team announced on Friday.
The Slovenian's absence in Portland will be the eighth game he'll miss this season. Dončić has played in 32 games, leading the NBA at 33.6 points a game, along with 8.7 assists and 7.7 rebounds. The Lakers are 4-3 without him in the lineup.
With that, Dončić leads the Western Conference All-Star ballot after the first two rounds of voting returns.
Dončić has played in three back-to-back games this season and is coming off a 39-point outing in the Lakers' loss to the Charlotte Hornets on Thursday, notching six 3s for the second-highest this season.
“I want to win every game, so it doesn't matter if you come from a loss or a win. So I just want to win every game because obviously we had a great start and then we just kind of fell off," Dončić said after the loss at home to Charlotte.
The Lakers have lost four of their last five games and are sitting at a 24-15 record for fifth place in the West.
It was also announced that backup bigman Jaxson Hayes is questionable against Portland due to a left hamstring tendinopathy. He has missed the last two games. Starting center Deandre Ayton was added to the injury report and left knee soreness has him questionable in Portland as well.
