SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — The San Angelo Central High School gymnastics teams welcomed Abilene ISD teams and Abilene Wylie to town this past Saturday in the first home meet of the 2025-26 season.
The Lady Cats and Bobcats swept the team titles at the James R. White Gymnastics Center.
The Central girls have won seven straight state championships under longtime head coach Tony Walker.
Steely Young won the girls’ all-around title for the Lady Cats, and teammates Allison Garnett and Ava Bedard were second and third, respectively.
Despite losing three strong seniors to graduation last spring, the Lady Cats are hoping to make a push for an eighth-straight state crown later this spring.
The Central boys have five seniors and some newcomers who are competing in gymnastics for the first time.
Kern Arrott’s squad is making great progress. Carson Edwards took the all-around title, followed by teammates Brady Stewart, Nic Atchison and Ayden Freeman.
The Lady Cats and Bobcats return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Saginaw.
Central will make its final home appearance of the season when the Lady Cats and Bobcats host Odessa High, Odessa Permian and Wylie in a district qualifier meet on Saturday, Jan. 31.
