Barcelona academy gem weighs up future amid lack of minutes and growing interest

FC Barcelona are set to lose academy gem Pedro ‘Dro’ Fernandez imminently, with the youngster set to join PSG by activating his €6 million release clause.

Now, it appears that another talented prospect from Barcelona’s academy is weighing up his future at the club.

Guille Fernandez considering Barcelona future

According to Mundo Deportivo, the situation of Guille Fernandez at FC Barcelona has become delicate.

His lack of playing time with Barça Atletic has reignited interest from several clubs that have been monitoring him for some time, while the 17-year-old midfielder, frustrated by his situation, is considering his immediate future.

So far this season in Segunda RFEF, Guille has featured in 12 matches, starting only four of them, and has also missed seven games through injury. This past weekend, he was once again left without minutes for the reserve side against Andratx.

These figures are far removed from those of last season, when he was a key player for Barça Atletic in Primera RFEF. During the 2024/25 campaign, he played 32 matches, 22 of them as a starter, scoring seven goals and providing one assist.

Guille, who became the youngest debutant in the history of Barça Atletic at 15 years and 9 months, even younger than Lamine Yamal, has already accumulated 50 appearances for the reserve side.

From the club offices, there is a concrete effort to protect and support the La Masia gem, who is considered a clear long-term prospect. On the pitch, however, the numbers are telling.

The youngster has received offers from clubs across Europe in almost every transfer window since his breakthrough in the reserve team, including last summer. And interest in him is now growing again. The coming weeks could prove decisive in clarifying his future.
