Racing eyeing loan move for Barca youngster Xavi Espart

The teenager could be on the move.

Racing Santander are said to be keen on signing Barcelona youngster Xavi Espart on loan until the end of the season.

The two sides met in the Copa del Rey last 16 in midweek, with Barcelona running out 2-0 winners thanks to goals from Ferran Torres and Lamine Yamal.

Diario AS are now reporting that Racing want to land Espart as a replacement for Clément Michelin, who is expected to depart this winter.

Espart has been tipped to break into the first-team squad this season at Barcelona but it hasn’t really happened. He has trained with the first-team squad but then picked up a knee injury in November that has seen him sidelined for a significant period.

The arrival of Joao Cancelo on loan, who can play in both full-back positions, is likely to limit his first-team chances further, meaning a move away may be an option for the youngster.

Espart did sign a new contract at Barcelona in the summer, penning an extension that will keep him tied to the club until 2028.
