FC Barcelona released the squad list of players travelling to Czechia for Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League clash against Slavia Prague.
Among the absent names was that of captain and veteran goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, along with the likes of Lamine Yamal, who is suspended, and Ferran Torres, who is out injured.
However, Ter Stegen’s absence from the squad flying to Prague is not due to injury or suspension.
Loan move close to completion
Indeed, according to Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona have given permission to Ter Stegen to travel to Girona to complete his medical tests today.
An agreement between all parties over a loan deal has already been reached, and the final steps remain to be completed, one of which happens to be the medical.
The Blaugrana have authorised their captain and goalkeeper to go ahead and complete the medical examinations today, which explains his absence from the squad list for the Slavia Prague clash.

Ter Stegen will be joining Girona on loan until the end of the season, with no permanent purchase option included in the agreement.
The Montilivi-based outfit will be covering only a small portion of his salary, with Barcelona expected to continue paying around 90% of his wages for the duration of the loan deal.
Having become the third choice in the Barça squad under Hansi Flick this season, the move makes sense for Ter Stegen as he seeks regular game time so as to cement his place as Germany’s No. 1 in the World Cup later this year.
With the player having permission to travel to complete his medicals today, the completion of the loan deal should be announced in the coming days.
