When the clock finally hit zero, Charlie Becker didn’t rush to celebrate. His eyes went elsewhere first.

“When that clock hits zero and the confetti’s coming down, I was immediately looking for my family,” Becker said. “I mean there’s just no words. This is what you dreamt about as a kid. And to be able to come out here, it’s just it’s truly a blessing. And you know God has put us in the right position to be able to come out here and do these amazing things.”

The sophomore receiver finished the national championship with four catches for 65 yards, a quietly important contribution in the Indiana Hoosiers 27–21 win over Miami. His role grew as the season went on, a reflection of preparation, trust, and clarity inside Indiana’s receivers room.

“Coach (Mike) Shanahan and coach Cig (Curt Cignetti), they do a fantastic job of making sure that not just me but everybody in our receiving room knows what to do at every moment at every position on every play,” Becker said. “They have belief in everybody in our receiving room. I was just blessed enough to be able to be put in that position.”

That belief showed up most when the stage was biggest. Becker said Indiana never allowed the moment to speed them up. “They do a fantastic job of making sure that we keep our boys and we’re always calm, cool, and collected,” he said. “We play every snap like it’s 0–0.”

For Becker, though, much of this season traced back to one relationship. “Coming in here, I can’t tell you how scared I was,” he said. “Elijah immediately took me under his wing.” Before Becker ever played a snap, he reached out. “I DM’d Elijah and I was like, ‘Hey, what can I expect when I come here?’”

Becker didn’t hesitate when describing Elijah Sarratt. “He’s such a great person and such a great teammate and such a great leader,” Becker said. “He’s the most selfless teammate.”

On a night defined by composure and belief, Becker’s words, and his play, fit perfectly.
