‘It can’t always be easy’ — Bayern Munich boss almost echoes Coldplay in win over USG

FC Bayern earned a 2-0 victory.

Who could have thought that Union Saint-Gilloise would be the team that would make Bayern Munich head coach start to echo Coldplay.

After Bayern Munich’s hard-fought 2-0 victory over the Belgian power, Kompany did his best Chris Martin and almost gave the full, “Nobody said it was easy, no one ever said it would be this hard” treatment to the media.

“It’s the Champions League. It can’t always be easy. I wouldn’t say the opponent was better in the first half, we also had chances, but the pace was quite slow. In the second half we played very well despite the red card. It was a strong reaction once again by the team,” Kompany stated (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).

While the match was not exactly aesthetic, it did allow Kompany to get a much needed win and exorcise some Belgian demons as well. During his time at RSC Anderlecht as manager, Kompany was just 1-4 vs. Union Saint-Gilloise, so this was….progress?

Hey, at least Kompany’s record improved!
