Scottie Scheffler is now halfway to equalling one of Tiger Woods’ most famous records, and if he keeps up his current form, he could draw level as early as October 2028.
Scottie Scheffler has now held the world No. 1 ranking for 141 consecutive weeks, putting him exactly halfway to Tiger Woods’ 281-week reign at the top of the Official World Golf Ranking.
Woods set that mark between June 2005 and October 2010—a record long thought to be out of reach.
No matter how he performs in his 2026 PGA Tour season opener at the American Express, Scheffler’s spot looks safe for now.
Scheffler reaches halfway mark to Tiger Woods’ 281-week record
Scheffler’s current run at world No. 1 began on 21 May 2023, and he would have to stay there until 16 October 2028 to surpass Woods’ 281-week milestone.
The X account TrackingScheffler points out that, given his current trajectory, the 29-year-old could realistically reach that mark by late 2028.
With four straight PGA Tour Player of the Year awards and a level of consistency rarely seen, Scheffler has become the modern standard for sustained excellence.
He’s now spent 140 total weeks as world No. 1—but catching Woods’ all-time record of 683 weeks would still require nearly another decade at the top.
Some records may never be broken
Many consider Scottie Scheffler’s run among the most successful tenures since Tiger Woods’ prime, though it should be noted that surpassing the 683-week total remains an extraordinary challenge.
Few players in history have come close to that kind of longevity. Now 29, Scheffler’s calm temperament and precision have made him the face of the PGA Tour’s new era.
His consistency and control have defined a dominant stretch that’s putting him in rare company.
Even if he doesn’t break every record in the book, his sustained excellence has already put him among the sport’s most dominant figures.
