Rutgers lands its third cornerback in the transfer portal
Former Maryland defensive back Kevyn Humes, who initially committed to Boston College after entering the transfer portal, has flipped his commitment to Rutgers. Humes was allowed to change his commitment as he had not signed any binding paperwork for Boston College.
Humes originally enrolled with the Terrapins as a part of the 2024 class. During his freshman season, Humes would appear in eight games, mostly in a reserve role. He made 12 total tackles in his first year at Maryland.
The 6-foot, 185-pound cornerback would appear in nine games during his sophomore campaign, making his first career start in the Terrapins’ game against Wisconsin. He would go on to start two games last season, against the Badgers and against Nebraska. He would record 16 total tackles in 2025, with one pass defended and .5 tackles for loss.
Before committing to Maryland out of high school, Humes, who played his high school ball at Baltimore’s St. Francis Academy, and was rated as the No.61 cornerback recruit of the class according to 247sports. St. Francis Academy is a regional football powerhouse in Baltimore that would be good for Rutgers to establish a connection with.
Humes spent most of his snaps in the slot last season. According to Pro Football Focus, he was targeted 29 times, allowing 23 catches for 169 yards and 1 touchdown.
During his time in the transfer portal, Cal, Georgia Tech, UCF, and Boston College showed interest in him before the Knights landed him. He comes to Rutgers with two years of eligibility remaining.
With the addition of Humes, Rutgers has now added three cornerbacks out of the transfer portal, as they had already landed Bradlee Jones from the Citadel and Zahmir Dawud from Villanova earlier in the cycle.
