This will be Garcia’s first opportunity to win a major world title, though some have questioned why he is getting such a golden ticket handed to him following his loss to Rolando Romero last year (see it again here). Garcia is just 1-2-1 in his last four outings, which further raises eyebrows as to why a big title fight came his way.
Nevertheless, he is out to remind everyone he is still a threat despite his recent struggles in and out of the ring.
“At the end of the day, I know what I went through after the Haney situation, the scandal. I don’t really want to get into it too much, but it did take a toll on me. They wanted me to force to fight and I was uninterested it (against Romero) and it showed,” he said.
“In order to be a great quarterback like Tom Brady, you need to be able to forget about the last bad play and move on. And that is what this is, the next play and I got to go grab that title. I am hungry, exited an ready to put on a show.”
