It's a historic day for the NWSL.

Trinity Rodman is sticking in the league. The United States international forward signed a record-setting contract with the Washington Spirit and won't be going anywhere after months of speculation about her future.

Rodman's deal was reported by ESPN -- it'll be for three years and more than $2 million per year.

According to ESPN, the contract makes Rodman the highest-paid player in league history and the highest-paid female soccer player in the world.

Previously, that highest-paid honor was believed to belong to Barcelona's Aitana Bonmati, according to ESPN.

Portland Thorns forward Sophia Wilson makes $1 million per year in NWSL.

"It feels amazing, I'm very happy, I'm very blessed," Rodman said after signing her contract, via ESPN. "I think it's a monumental and game-changing moment right now. I can't even describe in words what it feels like. Obviously, everyone's going to have their different thoughts and opinions about it, but I've never really cared. So, that doesn't change anything for me."

Rodman views this as being about legacy.

"I've always had a vision of kind of an idea of what I want my legacy to be and continue to be," Rodman said. "For me, we're doing that, with help obviously, and I'm so grateful for that. But yeah, I think this is just opening up opportunities for American girls with dreams, and I'm one and was one of them, and so I'm very grateful about that."

Rodman's contract expired on Dec. 31, and there were offers coming from abroad and even from a competing domestic league.

In the end, the NWSL and Spirit figured out how to get it done and keep their star here.
