With the weather seems like a great way to stay inside and watch some great Gopher action
It’s an absolutely frigid weekend in Minnesota and the rest of the upper Midwest. But the cold does not stop the tons of Minnesota Golden Gophers teams in action this weekend. It’s a busy weekend both on the road and at home—perfect for catching some of it form your couch and then heading down to campus to see some in person. Check out the full weekend schedule below, a preview of all the action and how you can watch it this weekend!
Friday January 23rd:

The Gopher tennis team returns to action for the 2026 portion of their season with a pair of home matches on Friday. Minnesota defeated Iowa State 5-2 in the morning and will face North Dakota at 3 PM. A free livestream of the match is HERE.
Indoor Track @ Texas Tech 11 AM ESPN+
The Gopher indoor track and field team heads to Lubbock, Texas for the Stan Scott Invitational hosted by Texas Tech on Friday. The one-day track meet will see Minnesota athletes compete against teams like Texas Tech, Ohio State, Southern Cal and more. The meet will stream live on ESPN+.
#7 Wrestling vs #2 Ohio State 6 PM BTN
The Gopher wrestling team will face another tough ranked opponent when #2 Ohio State comes to the Pav on Friday night. The Gophers lost to #6 Nebraska 20-12 last weekend.
The Gophers and Buckeyes will meet for the second time this season allready as the two teams faced one another in the quarterfinals of the National Duals Invitational, 29-6. There are likely to be nine ranked bouts in the match on Friday, but unfortunately for the Gophers they are only favored in one weight class.
125: #9 Jore Volk and #2 Nic Bouzakis will likely meet for the second time this year. Bouzakis prevailed at National Duals in sudden victory, 8-5.
141: #9 Vance VomBaur is set to face #1 Jesse Mendez for the fourth time in his career. Mendez has won all three previous matchups, including earlier this season by major decision at the National Duals.
149: #23 Drew Roberts is set to face #4 Ethan Stiles for the first time.
157: #21 Charlie Millard is set to take on top-ranked Brandon Cannon for the second time this season as Cannon won by major decision at National Duals.
165: #11 Andrew Sparks is 2-0 lifetime against #18 Paddy Gallagher, including a 3-2 win in overtime earlier this season at National Duals. Sparks also won at last year’s Big Ten Championships.
174: #24 Ethan Riddle is likely to face #4 Carson Kharchla for the second time this season after Kharchla won by tech fall at National Duals.
184: #4 Max McEnelly and #5 Dylan Fishback are scheduled to meet for a second time this season. At National Duals, McEnelly won in overtime, 4-1.

Men’s Hockey @ #2 Michigan State 6 PM B1G+
The Gophers still look for their first win of 2026 as they head to East Lansing to face the #2 ranked Michigan State Spartans. Minnesota took one point from #1 Michigan last weekend at 3 M Arena at Mariucci but appeared completely outclassed for most of the weekend. It won’t get any easier against the Spartans who have one of the best goalies in the nation in Trey Augustine. You can expect Minnesota goalie Luca DiPasquo to be fired up for a chance at his former team this weekend however. The Junior transfer left after Augustine decided to return for her junior season and would love to show the Spartans what they are missing. He will need some help from his teammates however who are struggling to put the puck in the net at rates not seen for several years in Dinkytown.
Friday’s game will stream only on B1G+ with puck drop set for 6 PM.
#3 Women’s Hockey @ #14 St. Cloud State 6 PM B1G+
The third ranked Gopher women’s hockey team heads up to St. Cloud for the opening game of the home and home series between the two teams on Friday night. It will be the final regular season series for the quartet of Gopher Olympians who will miss the final eight games of the regular season while preparing and playing in the Olympics. Abbey Murphy will play for the USA, Josefin Bouveng for Sweden, Nelli Laitinen for Finland and Tereza Plosová for Czechia.
Murphy is rapidly chasing down some all-time Gopher records before she leaves. She currently sits #2 all-time in Minnesota history in both goals and points. She passed Natalie Darwitz and Amanada Kessel in points last weekend to take sole possession of second place with 253. She is still well behind and will not catch #1 Hannah Brandt at 286.
Murphy now has 136 goals putting her just three back of current Ohio State head coach Nadine Muzerall’s career record of 139. There is a good chance Murphy can break that record this weekend, and if not almost certainly when she returns for the WCHA Playoffs.
Minnesota swept the Huskies in a home and home series earlier this season 4-1 and 5-3 with Murphy scoring three of the Gophers goals. SCSU comes in hot after taking five of six possible points from #8 Minnesota-Duluth last weekend.
Faceoff on Friday is set for 6 PM and will stream on B1G+.
Saturday January 24th:
Men’s Basketball vs #7 Nebraska 11 AM FS1
The Gophers will try to see if they can pull an upset and ruin Nebraska’s so far perfect season when the Cornhuskers come into The Barn on Saturday morning. A full preview of the game is HERE. Tip is set for 11 AM and will air on Fox Sports 1.
#3 Women’s Hockey vs #14 St. Cloud State 2 PM Fox 9+/ B1G+
The series between the Gophers and Huskies returns to Minneapolis and Ridder Arena for the second game. It will be the final regular season game for Murphy, Bouveng, and Laitinen in their Gopher careers. Face off will be at 2 PM and will air on Fox 9+ as well as stream on B1G+.
#14 Gymnastics @ Nebraska 3 PM BTN
The #14 Gopher gymnastics team will hit the road for their first road Big Ten meet after a pair of home upsets over #10 Arkansas and #5 Michigan the past two weekends. After a hug win over the Wolverines the Gophers moved up in the rankings on all the different apparatuses as well. Minnesota ranks #10 nationally on beam, #12 on floor, #14 on vault and #16 on bars.
Nebraska fell to #5 UCLA in their Big Ten opener last weekend and ranks #33 nationally. The meet will air at 3 PM on Big Ten Network as the first of a Gophers doubleheader of action.
Men’s Hockey @ #2 Michigan State 5 PM BTN
The second end of the BTN doubleheader is game two of the series between the Gophers and Spartans in East Lansing. That is set for a 5 PM puck drop.
Sunday January 25th:
#7 Wrestling vs #26 Wisconsin 1 PM B1G+
It’s Border Battle Sunday in Minneapolis as the #7 Gopher wrestling team will face off against #26 Wisconsin at The Pav Sunday afternoon. Minnesota is 69-37-1 all-time against Wisconsin, including wins in 12 of the last 13 meetings. The 69 wins are by far the most for Minnesota against any one program with second place being 52 wins over Nebraska. Additionally, the 107 all-time meetings with the Badgers ranks second in Gopher history behind only 111 duals with Iowa.
Minnesota matches up much better against the Badgers. Based on probable lineups and the latest rankings from InterMat, there is the potential for six ranked matchups on Sunday, with three of the four unranked matchups in Minnesota’s favor.
125: #9 Jore Volk and #16 Nicolar Rivera have never met.
149: #23 Drew Roberts is set to face #16 Joseph Zargo for the third time in his career. Zargo has won both previous matchups, which took place last year. He won by major decision in the regular season and by decision at the Big Ten Championships.
157: #21 Charlie Millard is scheduled to face #26 Luke Mechler for the first time in their careers.
165: #11 Andrew Sparks could face #24 Cody Goebel for the first time.
197: #30 Gavin Nelson could face #25 Wyatt Ingham for the first time ever.
285: #10 Koy Hopke and #9 Braxton Amos have not met before.
Action begins at 1 PM and will stream on B1G+.
Women’s Basketball vs Wisconsin 2 PM B1G+
The second leg of the Border battle moves over to Williams Arena where the Gopher women’s basketball team hosts the Badgers. Minnesota is coming off of a 65-60 win at Oregon on Wednesday night, while the Badgers are hot with back to back home wins over Oregon and #24 Nebraska. Wisconsin has struggled on the road this season which bodes well for the Gophers.
Tip is set for 2 PM and will stream on B1G+.
