Roma Send Baldanzi Out, Line Up Venturino

Roma cleared space in attack by loaning Baldanzi to Genoa as talks advance for teenage forward Lorenzo Venturino.

After spending weeks, if not months, tracking every available and semi-available forward in Europe, Roma closed a pair of intriguing deals last week, landing Donyell Malen from Aston Villa and young French forward Robinio Vaz from Marseille. While Vaz is one for the future, Malen made an immediate impact, scoring the match-winning goal against Torino last weekend.

With Gian Piero Gasperini foaming at the mouth for more signings, simple logic dictates that Roma must shed a few pieces before Gasp gets his wishes. Step one in that plan saw Leon Bailey’s loan from Villa canceled six months early; a transaction we may see repeated with Kostas Tsimikas and Liverpool.

And earlier today, Roma took an even more drastic step, sending Tommaso Baldanzi back into Daniele De Rossi’s welcoming arms at Genoa.

According to the official club release, the 22-year-old midfielder will join De Rossi, his first manager at Roma, on a season-long loan with a rumored €10 million option to buy, ending his two-year stint with the Giallorossi.

But that may not be the last bit of business between Roma and Genoa. According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Lorenzo Venturino, a 19-year-old forward, will join the Giallorossi on loan with a €6 to €7 million option to buy. With eight top-flight appearances, including a brace against Bologna last season, Venturino isn’t as green as he may seem.

With the signings of Malen, Vaz, and potentially Venturino, Gasperini is preparing for life without Artem Dobvyk and Evan Ferguson. If the Torino match was any indication, Gasperini’s eye for talent is as sharp as ever.
