Thunder fans power through the cold to make it to the game

The message all week has been to get inside by Friday evening, before the snow and ice arrive.

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — The message all week has been to get inside by Friday evening, before the snow and ice arrive.

Winter weather moves into Oklahoma Friday, Saturday

Snow and ice couldn’t stop many die-hard Thunder fans who wanted to be at the game anyway.

“The walk-in was freezing,” said Lydia Barnett, Thunder fan. “It was brutal already, and we’re just nervous walking after the game.”

Negative wind chills and a forecast for heavy snow could not stop thousands of Thunder fans from cheering on their team Friday night.

“I just got gifted the tickets randomly because of the winter storm, and I called her up, and I said, hey, you want to go to a Thunder game? And she said, yeah, sure,” said Seth Hebert.

Thunder fans are braving the cold one layer at a time.

“I have a few more coats in the car,” said Ethan Dayton.

“Yeah, I have a coat that I brought,” said Ali Dayton.

State and OKC prepare the roads ahead of winter weather event

Fans didn’t want to let some winter weather get in the way of watching their team.

“You’re not going to have Oklahomans that are threatened by weather,” said Hebert.

“I think it just shows you how much Oklahoma just loves the Thunder, and how much they want to come support them,” said Ethan.

While fans didn’t have any trouble getting to the game, getting home might be a different story.

“It’s been on the teeter-totter when we’re supposed to get the sleet and the ice and the ice rain, I think you should just watch out,” said Hebert.

“Be safe, drive safe, pay attention, and be respectful to other people on the road,” said Dominic Dowdy, Thunder fan.
