Two positions will be of Real Madrid’s interest in the summer transfer window in terms of new signings come June – centre-back and central midfield.
Injuries have seen the team suffer in the defensive department this season, while a lack of quality creative options has emerged as a serious problem in midfield.
The club, needless to say, is looking at a plethora of players, including some experienced options, others young and malleable and some just beginning to hit their prime.
Midfield budget set
As reported in a recent report by Defensa Central, Real Madrid have set their budget for the midfield position in the summer and it is placed at a generous €80 million.
The idea is to sign a ‘Toni Kroos replacement’, and the club have the likes of Vitinha, Enzo Fernandez, Adam Wharton and Rodri on their radar as potential options.

Of all the names on Real Madrid’s table, the one who generates the most consensus, taking into account the budget, is Wharton, as confirmed by the Spanish outlet.
After all, their budget is very close to the asking price set by Crystal Palace for the English international.
While Florentino Perez and Co. are crazier about the signing of Vitinha, they do not want to go overboard for one position. The €70 million price tag for Wharton, in that sense, fits their need and spending limit.
The 21-year-old has been linked to Real Madrid for a reasonably long time now and can play both as a defensive midfielder and a central midfielder who connects defence with attack.
His versatility, physicality and technicality is seen to be in good enough proportions to be to Real Madrid’s liking.
