After two rounds of the American Express in California, Blades Brown and Scottie Scheffler find themselves tied at the top of the leaderboard.

Scheffler, the world’s top-ranked golfer, faces off against Brown, whose rise to prominence has been one of golf’s biggest stories in recent months.

Both players have started strong, setting up what could be an intriguing weekend battle. Brown came close to breaking 60 on Friday, but saw his final putt slip just right of the hole.

Meanwhile, Scheffler has posted rounds of 63 and 64 without really finding his best rhythm yet.

He feels his game is solid overall but recognises that his driving still needs some work.

Tied with Scheffler after 36 holes, Brown’s position sets the stage for what promises to be a very compelling viewing experience this weekend.

Scheffler and Brown are set to play their third rounds on the Pete Dye Stadium Course this Saturday.

The world number one will once again be paired with Justin Rose, while Brown stays alongside David Ford.

But after three rounds, the leaders will go out last, as is customary every week on the PGA Tour.

So is Brown looking forward to potentially playing alongside Scheffler on Sunday, or is he feeling nervous about it?

Reporters put that question to him following round two in the desert on Friday.

“I think that would be awesome, yeah,” Brown stated.

“Scottie is an unbelievable golfer. I’d try to learn from him as much as I can the way he plays the golf course.

“There’s a lot of strategy in his game, and he’s obviously an unbelievable ball-striker. So it’s really cool watching him play some golf.”

Scottie Scheffler likely welcoming the competition from Brown

Brown looks like he is going to be a real challenge for players on the PGA Tour over the next several years.

But that is the kind of thing Scheffler tends to welcome.

The world number one is at his best when pushed, and the 18-year-old looks more than capable of doing just that.

Brown showed again on Friday that he’s ready for life on tour now, not just in a few years’ time.

What stands out most is not just his talent, but how level-headed he stays during a round. He does not get too high or low, no matter what is happening.

Sound familiar? It would not be a surprise to see these two crossing paths quite a bit over the next couple of decades.
