Patriots make roster moves to optimize roster for AFC Championship

The Patriots activated a key veteran and made two strategic elevations to face Denver.

The Patriots made a handful of roster moves ahead of Sunday’s AFC Championship game.

The biggest, of course, was activating Mack Hollins from injured reserve making one of Drake Maye’s favorite targets available again.

Notably, Terrell Jennings was not activated.

D’Ernest Johnson, who has on and off the active roster and the practice squad was activated again. The veteran running back is an option as a reserve running back as well as on special teams. He played in seven regular season games with 13 rushing attempts for 25 yards and five kickoff returns for 128 yards.

Defensive end Leonard Taylor was also activated in response to Harold Landry III being unavailable.

Reserve defensive tackle Eric Gregory was placed on injured reserve, ending his season. Receiver Trent Sherfield was released from the practice squad.

The Broncos elevated receivers Michael Bandy and Elijah Moore from their practice squad and activated offensive lineman Luke Wattenberg from injured reserve.

The Patriots play at Denver on Sunday at 3 p.m.
