Kentucky nearly got screwed on horrific foul call in final minutes vs. Ole Miss

A horrific call nearly cost Otega Oweh and the Cats.

The Kentucky Wildcats came out on top in a sluggish Saturday game against the Ole Miss Rebels by a final score of 72-63. In a game that had 48 free throws between both teams, the Wildcats nearly got screwed in the final minutes by a controversial call on Otega Oweh.

With 2:50 left to play in Saturday afternoon’s game, Oweh was called for an and-1 foul in the post. It was clear that Corey Chest made a textbook hook-and-hold play in the post after he attempted to spin off of Oweh.

On the ESPN broadcast, the replay clearly showed Chest holding Oweh, and even the announcers were surprised it was called a foul on Oweh.

This exact play has been a point of emphasis in college basketball over the past couple of years. The missed call almost haunted the Wildcats, as they were leading just 62-58 before the play happened.

Chest went to the free-throw line and missed the front end, limiting the damage to just two points.

Oweh dropped 20 for the Wildcats in the second half en route to their fifth straight win in SEC play.

The Wildcats are back in action on Tuesday, January 27th, on the road against Vanderbilt. Tip-off is set for 9:00 p.m. ET on ESPN.
