Should Cowboys lean on draft or free agency to fix CB, DE issues?- Reid Hanson, Cowboys Wire
There are a lot of holes to address this offseason, and Dallas has several options to accomplish that.
2026 free agent class at CB
Trevon Diggs is no longer on the roster and DaRon Bland is rehabbing from a serious foot injury. What was once viewed as a massive strength just 12 months ago, is now a serious concern. The Cowboys hope they found a long-term solution in 2025 third-round pick Shavon Revel, but he had a tough rookie season that inspires more doubt than confidence.
Players like Reddy Steward, Caelen Carson and Josh Butler are decent depth pieces, but no one wants to roll into 2026 with any of them penciled in as starters. It’s likely the Cowboys need multiple starting quality players at CB this offseason which means significant investment by way of cash or draft capital.Expert NFL picks: Exclusive betting insights only at USA TODAY.
Free agents Tariq Woolen (26), Jamel Dean (29), Eric Stokes (26), Greg Newsome (25), Roger McCreary (25), Alontae Taylor (27) and Cam Taylor-Britt (26) all look to cash in on major contracts this spring. Oddly enough, the CB who’s projected to command the most per Spotrac estimates is former Cowboys CB Nahshon Wright.
Christian Parker just did what Cowboys fans begged for since firing Matt Eberflus – Jerry Trotta, The Landry Hat
Christian Parker is already working to assemble his team.
New Cowboys DC Christian Parker seems like he wants to put together his own staff
Letting Parker and Brian Schottenheimer (mostly Parker) put together his own staff is unequivocally the right call.
It would be a different story if even one assistant had exceeded expectations this season and players were lobbying for them to return, but that wasn’t the case. Not a single position group punched above its weight class. Defensive back, linebacker, defensive line. You name it. Every unit struggled.
Fortunately for Parker, some assistants have gotten a head start with seeking other opportunities.
Per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Titans have requested an interview with Cowboys defensive line coach Aaron Whitecotton for their DC vacancy. That isn’t entirely surprising, as Whitecotton and newly minted Titans head coach Robert Saleh have coached together at three different stops.
2026 NFL Draft Prospect Cole Wisniewski Fits Christian Parker’s Scheme- Cody Warren, Inside The Star
Time for Christian Parker to get his guys.
The Cowboys haven’t lacked talent on defense, but they have lacked unpredictability. Everything in 2025 looked the same before the snap, and offenses have known exactly where to go with the ball.
Parker’s background suggests that’s not how he wants to run a defense. His approach leans toward more movement, disguise, and putting more on the safeties to read what’s developing instead of just sitting.
That alone could put the safety position front and center in this reset.
Why Cole Wisniewski Works for Dallas
Wisniewski isn’t flashy, but at 6’4” and around 220 pounds, he brings a presence the Cowboys haven’t consistently had over the middle of the field.
He doesn’t float in coverage or drift out of position, and he understands spacing well enough to anticipate where routes are headed instead of reacting late.
When you watch him rotate, it’s decisive. When he is sitting in zone, throwing lanes tighten and quarterbacks don’t get the same clean looks they’re used to.
That is the type of safety I believe Christian Parker can do things with.
Cowboys deny Eagles’ request to interview Klayton Adams for OC- Jess Haynie, Blogging The Boys
Dallas is not giving the Eagles an inch.
A couple of days after Dallas poached Christian Parker from the Eagles’ coaching staff, Philly tried for a little revenge. The Eagles’ reportedly asked to interview Cowboys offensive coordinator Klayton Adams for the same job, but Dallas denied the request.
The Cowboys were able to block Philly’s access to Adams according to NFL rules for lateral moves among coaches. When a new team is offering a promotion, as Dallas did with Parker, the current employer cannot stop them. Parker was serving as the Eagles’ defensive backs coach and was still under contract for 2026, but the Cowboys made him their new defensive coordinator on Friday.
Because Philadelphia was only interested in Adams as their new OC, the same title he has in Dallas currently, the Cowboys were able block it.
