For the second time in just over a month, 2027 three-star quarterback James Perrone (USF commit), one of South Florida’s top high school football passers will be transferring schools.

According to Instagram post shared to Perrone’s social media page on Monday evening, the USF pledge is transferred from the 9-time state champion Miami Central Rockets (Fla.) to the 17-time state champion St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla.).

It’s the second quarterback transfer in less than a week for the Raiders as they recently saw Class of 2028 signal caller Nate Merrell Jr.announce this past Sunday that he will be transferring to play for St. Thomas Aquinas.

Perrone this past 2025 season had himself another solid campaign for Miami Southridge, completing 193 of 295 passes for 3,231 yards, 33 touchdowns and just five interceptions. The signal caller also added 636 yards on 58 attempts and scored nine times on the ground.

For his high school career so far, Perrone has totaled over 9,500 all-purpose yards and 98 total touchdowns heading into his senior year.

Perrone joins a crowded quarterback room at one of the country’s top high school football teams as they’re set to graduate last season’s starting quarterback Mason Mallory. The Raiders are set to bring back Class of 2027 signal caller Cody Conness.

St. Thomas Aquinas finished as the state’s No. 2 ranked tea, according to the final Florida 2025 High School Football Massey Rankings.
