CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — After just one semester on Illinois’ campus, Romi Tamir has put herself in the record books.
The freshman jumper set a new UI Armory triple jump record at the Fighting Illini Challenge, jumping 13.50 meters.
Her jump is currently the second-best in the NCAA for 2026 and the second-best in program history, just three inches shy of the record set by Darja Sopova.
“I definitely would like to achieve it, I’m not going to lie,” said Tamir. “But yeah, I’m going to step by step. I’m not thinking that forward. I’m taking it step by step. I feel like it’s so much fun. And as I said before, I really like the environment here and the fact that a lot of athletes here are Europeans and you can really strive for excellence.”
The Illini head to Arkansas next for the Razorback Invitational.
