Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez is enjoying a remarkable period in his young career.
Since the turn of the year, the 22-year-old has emerged as one of Barcelona’s most consistent performers.
His rise has not gone unnoticed by the club, and Fermin has already confirmed that talks are underway over a new contract.
An agreement in principle has reportedly been reached for a renewal that would keep him at Barcelona until 2031.
The new deal is expected to include a significant 50% pay rise and an increase in his release clause.
Personal side of Fermin Lopez
Amid this strong run of form and contract progress, Fermin recently opened up in a media appearance, offering a rare and honest insight into his personal journey.
Looking back on his early years, the midfielder admitted that self-doubt was a constant companion.

“I didn’t think about quitting football, but during my youth career, I felt far inferior to my teammates,” he admitted.
Fermin then detailed one of the most difficult moments of his development, describing how close he came to walking away.
“There was a moment when I said, ‘I’m going home.’ I cried there at La Masia, I had a terrible time, and my parents and everything.
“And yes, sometimes I thought about going home and that was it, giving it all up, but I had to be a little stronger, and in the end, it helped me.”
Learnings at Linares
The turning point, according to Fermin, came away from Barcelona. Reflecting on when he truly began to believe in himself, he explained,
“After my loan spell at Linares. I think I matured a lot there as a person and as a player.
“I could have gone to other second division clubs, but there I imagined I could make it to the first team. At that moment, I thought I could dedicate myself to football.”
Asked how his teammates see him now, Fermin revealed a light-hearted exchange involving Ronald Araujo.
“Ronald told me about my energy, that I go too fast, my gestures and everything. I don’t realise it.”
The room reacted with laughter, and Fermin added another comment from the Uruguayan defender, stating, “He also told me I was a pain.”

In a more relaxed moment, Fermin also spoke about dealing with life as a recognised Barcelona player.
He explained how the pressure is felt more off the pitch than on it.
“On the field, I don’t feel any pressure. Well, playing for Barça is demanding, as you know, but I feel it more on the street.
“Staying at home more because you can’t go everywhere without feeling nervous is a bit harder for me, but that’s how it is.”
Finally, he revisited the moment that truly announced his arrival, his stunning pre-season goal against Real Madrid.
Speaking with a smile, he said, “Don’t ask me how I shot it. It just came naturally. I’ve always been good at shooting with both feet.”
