Sacred Heart still on top of Kentucky high school basketball rankings

The Sacred Heart Valkyries and Assumption Rockets are still 1-2 in the Kentucky high school girls basketball rankings. See where other teams landed.

There was little movement in this week’s Kentucky High School Girls Basketball Elite 16, with the top nine teams keeping the same position as last week.

Sacred Heart maintained the No. 1 ranking after receiving 11 of 16 first-place votes.

Assumption is No. 2 and is followed by George Rogers Clark, Calloway County and Simon Kenton in the top five.

Six of the state’s top eight teams — Sacred Heart, Assumption, GRC, No. 6 Cooper, No. 7 Frederick Douglass and No. 8 Taylor County — are scheduled to compete in the Shirley’s Way Louisville Invitational Tournament that’s now set to tip off Thursday at Atherton High School.

The tournament originally was scheduled to begin Monday but was postponed because of snow.

The Kentucky High School Girls Basketball Elite 16 is conducted by 16 sports journalists — one from each of the state’s 16 basketball regions. The poll will be released online each Tuesday throughout the regular season.

Along with the statewide top 16, voters will provide top-five rankings for their respective regions.

Here are the rankings:
