Casemiro is heading into a busy 2026, with his priorities including Manchester United’s Champions League push, a spot in Brazil’s World Cup squad and a search for a new club once the season ends.

The Brazilian may be 33 and not at the level he once was, but he still plays an important role in United’s midfield. His experience stood out again during recent wins over Man City and Arsenal, partnering well with Kobbie Mainoo in the centre of the park.

Ruben Amorim previously highlighted Casemiro’s value during his time as head coach, and now Michael Carrick has echoed those sentiments, planning to lean on the veteran midfielder throughout the rest of the campaign.

That approach paid off in United’s 3-2 win over Arsenal, where Carrick picked up another victory against Mikel Arteta. Casemiro is expected to keep his spot when United face Fulham next weekend.

Keeping Casemiro fit and performing is vital for United this season. He has been a significant presence since joining from Real Madrid in 2022.

The Brazilian confirmed he would leave Old Trafford at the end of his contract this summer, ending what will be a four-year spell with the club.

Some fans feel it was unfortunate that he didn’t make the switch from Madrid earlier. As his departure approaches there are some who regret seeing him go.

Casemiro is preparing for his third World Cup this summer. The midfielder, who played under Ancelotti at Real Madrid, has been given the captaincy for the tournament.

That means Casemiro will be one of the first names listed in Ancelotti’s squad, granted he avoids injuries between now and the end of the season.

He’ll turn 34 before the tournament kicks off and has already played in two World Cups, making his debut in Russia 2018 before featuring again in Qatar 2022.

Speaking to ESPN, Casemiro discussed how his performances at United would impact his ambition to win a World Cup with Brazil: “It’s one of the things that goes through my head the most, especially the way we lost, even more so in the other two [2018 and 2022], when we were doing well, with good dynamics.

“Against Croatia, for example, they took a shot on goal, scored, and ended up being eliminated on penalties. So, it’s the title that’s missing from my career.”

“Of course,” he continued. “When it comes to the World Cup you have to do well at your club. So I have to do well here at United. But it’s something I dream about every day while awake and sleeping.”

Ancelotti sends staff to watch Casemiro in Manchester derby

In the same interview, Casemiro discussed his close relationship with Ancelotti.

During their time together, Casemiro won two Champions League titles, a UEFA Super Cup, a La Liga title, a Spanish Super Cup, and a Copa del Rey under Ancelotti.

“We always communicate, mainly because of his human side. He’s a guy who’s always very close to the players, wishing them a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!” he said.

“His coaching staff was at the game against City. They told me they wanted to come and watch the game. So, we’re always in communication; it’s important, especially with that strong base that we know the national team has.

“And of course, it’s nothing new for Ancelotti to do this because of his human side, which is very important.”
