We are more than three weeks removed from the end of the 2025 season, but numerous key positions on the Jets coaching staff remain unfilled. The team fired defensive coordinator Steve Wilks after a Week 15 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Almost two weeks after the end of the season, the Jets then fired six assistant. There have also been rumors that offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand will remain on staff but be stripped of his playcalling duties.
There are numerous rumors about potential hires the Jets could make, but few reporters are providing anything concrete.
So the Jets may or may not hire Frank Reich, and they may or may not hire Wink Martindale.
We don’t really know what’s to come. It’s not clear the Jets know what direction they want to go. Even if the team filled all of its coaching staff vacancies today, this process has been strikingly long. It’s unusual for a team with a returning head coach to be this deep into the offseason without having settled on a play caller on both sides of the ball. That’s to say nothing of the key position coach roles like quarterback and defensive line that still need to be filled.
