Manchester United are plotting a “blockbuster move” for Iliman Ndiaye as the club’s transfer plans this summer begin to take shape, according to a new report.

A New Left-Winger

United were prepared to launch an unexpected raid to sign Antoine Semenyo this month, only for the Bournemouth talisman to reject these advances in favour of a move to the blue half of Manchester.

The 26-year-old winger was a long-term target, with the club’s sporting director Jason Wilcox inviting him for dinner last summer to discuss a potential move.

Ultimately, United prioritised a pursuit of Bryan Mbeumo instead, eventually agreeing a £71 million deal with Brentford for the Cameroon international.

However, United’s interest in signing another winger did not dissipate, as the failed approach for Semenyo over Christmas demonstrated, with Ruben Amorim even believed to be willing to adapt his system to lure the Ghanaian to Old Trafford.

One month on, Semenyo is starring for City while Amorim is no longer the head coach of the Red Devils, having been sacked after an explosive fall-out with Wilcox and replaced by Michael Carrick as caretaker until the end of the season.

Nonetheless, United’s intention to sign a flying left-winger remains, with the need for a new option increasing if anything, given the shift to a 4-2-3-1 formation – a system whoever is appointed this summer is expected to maintain.

Senegalese Showboat

TEAMtalkreveals United have identified Ndiaye as an option, with the Everton winger’s “brilliant skill, goalscoring and chance-creating ability” having impressed at the Theatre of Dreams.

“Sources have told TEAMtalk that Ndiaye has a growing number of admirers within the club, with his style of play and overall profile viewed as a strong fit for what United are looking to add in attack.”

A host of clubs – inside and outside of England – are understood to also be in the hunt for the Senegal international, who helped lead his country to triumph at the Africa Cup of Nations this month.

Last summer, Inter Milan had a £40m bid rejected, indicating the valuation the Toffees hold for their star player.

Indeed, TEAMtalk contends it will require a “mammoth fee” to prise him from Merseyside, with the club record £75m fee received for Romelu Lukaku to sign for United referenced as a benchmark.

The report concludes that the Red Devils will be “operat[ing] with significant financial backing” this summer, however, suggesting a big-money raid to repeat the trick which brought an Everton’s star attacker to Old Trafford.
