The Philadelphia Eagles need a new offensive coordinator after firing Kevin Patullo on January 13th, and former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sean Mannion will get a chance to earn the job. Mannion will interview with the Eagles, and if he plays his cards right, he’ll land one of the best coordinator jobs in football.
Philadelphia is casting a wide net, and Mannion’s name now sits in a candidate pool after two years on the Packers’ staff.
Mannion has served as a coach on the Green Bay Packers’ staff — an offensive assistant in 2024 and quarterbacks coach in 2025 — and is still just three years removed from his playing career.

Eagles to Interview Mannion for OC
The Eagles expanded their OC search on Tuesday, as NBC Sports‘Myles Simmons wrote, “It looks like the Eagles are getting closer to finding their next offensive coordinator. Per Mike Garafolo of NFL Media, Philadelphia is bringing in Packers quarterbacks coach Sean Mannion for an in-person interview this week.”
“This will be Mannion’s second interview with the club, as he previously met virtually with the Eagles. Mannion, 33, just finished his first year as Green Bay’s quarterbacks coach, having replaced the legendary Tom Clements. It was his second year on the Packers’ staff, as he served as an offensive assistant in 2024.”
Mannion gained notoriety in Minnesota as Kirk Cousins‘ backup for a few years.
Mannion’s Playing Career
Mannion bounced between Minnesota and Seattle for years, treating the two rosters like adjacent stops. Since 2019, he pinballed back and forth, last appearing with the Vikings in 2023 after landing on the practice squad in October. Minnesota released him in December, and the familiar landing spot followed shortly after, where he quietly wrapped up his playing days.
An Oregon State product, Mannion entered the league in 2015 as a 3rd-Round pick by St. Louis. He stayed tethered to the Rams for the duration of his rookie deal, then launched into the Minnesota–Seattle loop that wound down his career.
His NFL production as a player? Three starts, 11 total appearances, 573 passing yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions. That lone score came during the 2021 chaos week when Cousins landed on the COVID list before a trip to Green Bay.
He was also a preseason constant in Minnesota. Current head coach Kevin O’Connell shelves starters almost entirely in August. Mike Zimmer limited them to cameo appearances. Somehow, Mannion always found snaps when the calendar flipped to August.

“After the younger Mannion enrolled at Oregon State in 2010, his elder moved the rest of their family north, taking the head coaching job at Silverton HS (Silverton, OR) northeast of Salem. In 2017, John helped launch a brand new football program, Mountainside HS (Beaverton, OR) southwest of Portland.”

Mannion will turn 34 on the weekend of the 2026 NFL Draft.
