Yamaha didn’t waste any time after learning that Fabio Quartararo would be leaving. Reports suggest they’ve quickly moved to fill the void, with Jorge Martin said to have agreed a two-year contract starting in 2027.
Martin’s stint with Aprilia hasn’t gone to plan. After joining as the reigning world champion, he struggled with injuries and got caught up in contract issues early on.
Initially considering a move away, he eventually decided to stay after seeing how well Marco Bezzecchi was performing on the RS-GP25. But even then, there was always a bit of doubt hanging over his future.
With Quartararo set to join Honda next year, Yamaha found themselves without a clear leader heading into MotoGP’s new regulations for 2027.
But now it appears they’ve turned to another world champion to take on that responsibility.
Jorge Martin set to join Yamaha on two-year deal starting in 2027
Motorsport Espana reports that Jorge Martin is close to finalising a two-year deal to join the factory Yamaha team for the 2027 season.
This news comes as Martin deals with another injury setback, which will keep him out of pre-season testing in Sepang, although he’ll still be present with the team.
The move to Yamaha will mean Martin has ridden three different bikes over four seasons by the time 2027 comes around, reflecting how much has changed for him in a short span.
Following Quartararo’s exit, many fans feared Yamaha were heading into another difficult period. But Martin’s arrival could offer them a fresh start and much-needed stability heading into the new era.
There’s still some uncertainty over who will partner Martin at Yamaha. With reports suggesting Alex Rins may not stay on, there’s growing talk about Toprak Razgatlioglu stepping into that role.
