Report: Bill Utz steps down as Platte County (MO) head football coach

One of the Midwest’s top high school football head coaches is stepping away from the sidelines.

According to a report by PC Preps Extra, longtime Platte County (MO) head football coach Bill Utz has informed the team on Thursday that he’s stepping down from his position. Utz’s overall record during his time as a high school football coach is 179-110.

When it comes down to winning in the Show Me State, Utz has been the epitome of it throughout his 18 seasons at Platte County, where he’s compiled a 158-62 record. Over the last two seasons with the Pirates, Utz has led the program to back-to-back Class 5 state championships.

The Pirates are coming off an undefeated season and have won eight games or more in each of the past 11 seasons, including a run to the Class 4 state semifinals in 2017 and several Class 5 state title game appearances. Utz owns a 116-53 overall record at Platte County and also has coached at Stewartsville and Mid-Buchanan, respectively.

At the moment, the Pirates own the state’s longest winning streak at 28 games.

Platte County ended the 2025 season with a 14-0 record and as the state’s No. 1 ranked team, according to the final Missouri 2025 High School Football Massey Rankings.
