Friday Headlines: Alex Poythress Isn’t Giving Up On These Wildcats

Keeping the faith.

SEC Basketball Tournament - Championship

Anyone that knows the game of college basketball OR has watched just a small share of the Kentucky Wildcats this season is more than aware of how they’ve struggled halfway through the year.

Kentucky is 14-7 on the season and has played horribly on the road/when at a neutral site. They face another tough test this weekend as they make the trip to Fayetteville for a matchup with John Calipari’s Arkansas Razorbacks.

Despite being underdogs and staring a lost season in the face, former Wildcat Alex Poythress isn’t giving up on these Wildcats just yet.

He appeared on Mark Pope’s weekly radio show on Wednesday and talked about how the team can still find some momentum towards the end of the season.

Poythress was a part of one of the worst “lows” in Kentucky Basketball history when the 2012-2013 team went to the NIT and lost in the first round to Robert Morris.

But he was also a part of some of the biggest “highs” which included trips to two Final Fours in back-to-back seasons.

With Jayden Quaintance appearing to be out for the year, there isn’t much favorable optimism moving forward for the Wildcats. However, that doesn’t mean Kentucky should just quit on the season.

There’s a lot of basketball left to be played and Poythress has a point that the team could very well find some magic during the second half of the season.

After all, anything is possible.
