Hamburg have officially confirmed the arrival of Danish winger Albert Grønbaek on loan. Sport Bild reports that HSV have secured a €5m purchase option as part of the agreement. Grønbaek’s arrival in the Hanseatic city state had been in the works for several days.

Statements on Grønbaek’s signing

With Albert, we are getting a versatile player who is most comfortable in attacking midfield, but can also be used in the half positions and on the left wing,” HSV sporting director Claus Costa noted in a club statement. “He is a creative player with high technical quality, has a good drive toward goal and at the same time brings a great willingness to work against the ball. Albert was still part of the Danish senior national team last fall and is highly motivated to regain his former strength with us.

Albert quickly committed to HSV and was eager to join us,” said HSV CFO Dr. Eric Huwer added. “We are confident that he will integrate quickly. The proximity to his homeland and his understanding of the German language will help.”

This is a great opportunity for me,” Grønbaek himself said. “I had good conversations with Claus Costa and [head coach] Merlin Polzin, in which I could easily imagine how I would fit into the system.
