The transfer has now been completed.
Barcelona have confirmed that highly-rated defender Juwensly Onstein has joined the club from Racing Genk.
The deal has been rumored for a few days now but has finally been made official, with Onstein set to link up with Juliano Belletti’s Barcelona Atletic first of all.
Here’s the club’s official statement:
“FC Barcelona and KRC Genk have reached an agreement for the transfer of player Juwensley Onstein. The Dutch center-back signs for two and a half seasons, until June 30, 2028, with the option to extend the contract for another season.
“The footballer, an international with the lower categories of the Netherlands, has passed the usual medical tests and has been to see the Club’s facilities. In the coming days he will join training with his new teammates.”
Onstein had previously said his goodbyes to the Belgian club on social media. He posted the following message on Instagram.
“Genk has been an important part of my journey — a place where I learned, fought, made mistakes, and grew, both as a player and as a person.
“I am truly grateful to everyone who has been part of this path: the staff, my teammates, and all those who believed in me, even during the difficult moments.
“The most important decisions are never the easiest, but I feel that this is the right time to open a new chapter in my career and in my life. Thankyou Genk.”
