Jamaal Lascelles could leave Newcastle United before the transfer deadline, with multiple Championship clubs making late enquiries for the centre back, according to Sky Sports’ Mark McAdam.

McAdam reported on Saturday evening that interest has increased around the 32-year-old as Newcastle weigh squad changes ahead of the summer.

“Leicester City & Birmingham are two of SIX Championship clubs have made enquiries to Newcastle regarding Jamaal Lascelles,” McAdam wrote. “The 32-year-old has only featured twice in the Premier League for Newcastle this season and is out of contract in the summer.”

Lascelles has remained in Eddie Howe’s squad for years but has barely played under Howe’s term, seeing limited action for a few seasons now. He has played just 19 minutes in the league this campaign and has not featured since late September.

Leicester City and Birmingham City are among the clubs to have contacted Newcastle, with Leicester currently short of experienced defensive options after loaning out Wout Faes earlier in the window.

Lascelles’ contract situation has increased speculation about his future, with his deal due to expire in the summer of 2026, and Newcastle expected to listen to offers if a suitable move materialises before the deadline, just so he doesn’t leave for free in July.

Howe has previously indicated that Lascelles is the most likely senior player to depart before the window closes, as Newcastle manage squad depth and wages, with Joe Willock another possible man out.

A move this month would end the longest-serving spell currently held by a Newcastle player. Lascelles joined the club from Nottingham Forest during the 2014–15 season and later captained the side through multiple Premier League campaigns.

The January transfer window will close on Monday at 1 p.m ET for Premier League clubs and on Tuesday for Championship sides.
