FC Nantes have announced the arrival of RC Strasbourg Alsace’s Abakar Sylla (23) on loan until the end of the season. No purchase option has been included in the deal.
In 2023, Sylla became the most expensive signing in Strasbourg’s history when he arrived from Club Brugge for €20m, but his fortunes with the Alsatian club have been mixed. With the Jaune et Vert, the Ivorian international, who has six caps to his name, is now hoping to relaunch his career, having played just one minute this season after starting it injured.
At 23, Sylla is about to start a new chapter in his young career at a club fighting to stay up. The 1.88m defender will be a welcome addition as he attempts to shore up a back line that has already conceded 36 goals after 20 league games – the third worst record in Ligue 1 – and posted a goal difference of -17.
