New Pennsbury football coach Greiner welcomes high expectations

Pennsbury graduate and former Falcons assistant football coach John Greiner wants to be 'on top of the mountain' in SOL National

John Greiner grew up in Levittown and attended Pennsbury football games as a child with mom Patricia, a cafeteria worker at the high school. He was primarily a backup tight end/defensive end on the football team before graduating in 1993.

He has been a teacher at Pennsbury High School for 28 years and coached football with former Falcons’ head coach Galen Snyder for 15 years, so Greiner knows the expectations tend to be high in Fairless Hills.

Now that he’s been hired to succeed Snyder, Greiner said he’s “looking forward to meeting expectations and putting together a coaching staff that’s not shying away from those expectations.”

“Pennsbury is always looked at as one of the dominant teams not only in Bucks County but the Suburban One League,” Greiner said. “Our goal is to be at the top of the mountain.”

Former Council Rock North head coach John Greiner talks to his players after an October 2022 win over Hatboro-Horsham.

Greiner went 13-31 as the Council Rock North head coach from 2019-23 for a program that was a combined 4-45 in the three seasons before and two after him. Greiner compiled a 28-17 record with Bristol from 2015-18 and was a Bristol assistant coaching the offensive and defensive lines on Mike Ciotti’s staff during the past two seasons.

Prior to becoming the Bristol head coach, the 52-year-old Greiner coached the freshman, sophomore and then JV teams at Pennsbury.

Pennsbury’s last SOL National title was in 2022, which was Snyder’s first year of his second stint as head coach. The Falcons went 1-9 last season.

Greiner, who planned to take over the Falcons’ weight room responsibilities Tuesday, cited Snyder, Cliff Stout, the late Larry Greene and William Penn Middle School coaches Pancho Micir and Joe Leniski as among his “great mentors”.

“I feel very fortunate with all the people I’ve crossed paths with,” said Greiner, a 10th-grade world history teacher at Pennsbury.

Eight starters return from the Falcons’ defense that was the strength of the team in 2025.

“We want to build on what they did defensively,” Greiner said. “As we work with the players in the offseason, we’ll put them in the best position possible to be successful from a schematic standpoint. We’ll take some of the ground-and-pound offense and enhance it with the passing game.”
