Tijjani Reijnders says Pep Guardiola’s new-look Manchester City are ready to win a first trophy together after reaching the final of the Carabao Cup against Arsenal.

Reijnders is one of a number of City players who are yet to win silverware with the club and says doing so at Wembley in March will be a huge boost to his side’s hopes of repeating the feats of previous Manchester City teams.

“It’s a step closer to a trophy and we are very hungry,” the Dutchman, who scored in his side’s semi-final second-leg win over Newcastle, said.

“It would be nice for me personally to win my first trophy here at Manchester City, so it’s amazing.

“It’s another dream coming true. Of course, when I was a kid and I saw the finals there (at Wembley), I always dreamed of it and now I will go there.

“So now I’m very happy and can’t wait.

“It can give us a lot of confidence and an extra boost if we win that one. We are ready.

“If you see the pictures at our training ground, for example, then you want to achieve it as well. That gives you that extra motivation.”

Next up for City is a clash with Liverpool on Sunday, and Reijnders is under no illusions that his side cannot afford another slip up if they are to catch Premier League leaders Arsenal.

“We can’t afford any more slip-ups,” he said. “We want to win every game and this game won’t be different for us, so we have to be ready.”
