FC Bayern have an aura farmer in their ranks
Michael Olise is a bit of an enigma. Since arriving from Crystal Palace in the summer of 2024, the Bayern Munich winger has barely shown an ounce of emotion, despite wracking up goals and assists in the league and in Europe. His signature celebration is relatively sedate, and he rarely ever gets riled up by the opposition.
This stoic demeanor has resulted in his being labeled “nonchalant” and an “aura farmer” by fans of the club. (Side note: if you don’t know what those terms mean, you’re probably on the wrong side of thirty and your back hurts.)
But what is he like in the dressing room? Speaking to Sky Germany (via @iMiaSanMia), FC Bayern defender Jonathan Tah revealed that Olise’s icy exterior is just a gimmick for the cameras.
“To be honest, he’s different than he is with the press,” said Tah. “He’s open — he doesn’t sit alone in a corner and not talk. On the contrary, he’s really very communicative and puts on music. It’s not how it sometimes seems from the outside. Maybe he’s more reserved in front of the camera, which is perfectly fine. But he’s definitely more open with us.”
It’s honestly a sound strategy: look cool and nonchalant in the media, and be more carefree in the dressing room. If Olise keeps doing what he is doing (on and off the pitch) expect this gimmick to catch on with other footballers.
