‘Deco won’t be my sporting director’ – Victor Font outlines his plans for Barcelona

But he does want Hansi Flick to be his coach.

Barcelona presidential candidate Victor Font has said he will keep Hansi Flick on as coach but does not want Deco to be the club’s sporting director if he is elected president.

Font is set to go up against Joan Laporta again in next month’s presidential elections and has been talking about his plans for the future if he wins.

“My coach will be Hansi Flick, but Deco won’t be my sporting director,” he told RAC1. “We’ll make sure the existing structure is a better fit for Hansi Flick , and that there isn’t someone like Alejandro Echevarría, who doesn’t hold an official position but has undue influence.”

Font, who has previously said the first phone call he’ll make will be to Lionel Messi if he’s elected president, also said he won’t use the GOAT’s name to help his cause.

“I don’t have his phone number, but I do have his family’s. We have a project to rebuild bridges,” he added.

“We’ve spoken with his inner circle. I haven’t asked him to take a stand for me. What I won’t do is deceive the members by using Messi like Laporta did during the campaign. What seems clear is that he won’t be coming back with Laporta.”

Font did also speak about Xavi, who is set to support him in the elections, adding: “He’s been through Barça, he’s suffered a lot, he feels very deceived by people at the club.”

The elections are due to take place on March 15th.
