Women’s Hockey (26-4)
The women’s hockey team stayed unbeaten with 3-0 and 5-2 wins over Robert Morris last weekend. McKenna Walsh, Maddy Christian, and Grace Outwater all scored in the outdoor game at Beaver Stadium to lift Penn State to a 3-0 win. In Game 2, Penn State overcame an early 2-0 deficit and scored five unanswered goals to run away with a 5-2 win.
Tessa Janecke had two assists in the United States’ 5-1 win over Czechia in the Olympic opener.
Penn State will take on Lindenwood tonight (5pm) and Saturday (2pm).
Men’s Lacrosse (1-0)
The men’s lacrosse team opened its season with an 18-14 win over Colgate. Hunter Aquino scored five goals, and Kyle Lehman and Michael Faraone added hat tricks to power the offense past the Raiders. Penn State led after every quarter and got goals from 10 different scorers.
Penn State will host Villanova on Saturday (1pm on Big Ten Plus).
Men’s Volleyball (4-4)
The men’s volleyball team fell twice to Hawaii over the weekend at Rec Hall. The Rainbow Warriors swept the first match, limiting Penn State to just .211 hitting percentage. Sean Harvey led the Nittany Lions with 12 kills.
In the second match, Matthew Luoma (17 kills) and Sean Harvey (11) reached double figures in kills, but Hawaii’s defense again stifled Penn State’s attack. Hawaii had nine aces in the second match and hit .412 as a team to run away with a 3-1 win.
Penn State will play a home-and-home with St. Francis. The series begins tonight at Penn State (7pm on Big Ten Plus) and wraps up tomorrow (6pm) at St. Francis.
Women’s Basketball (8-15)
The women’s basketball team stopped the bleeding with an 85-82 overtime win at Purdue on Wednesday, snapping an 0-11 start to conference play. Kiyomi McMiller scored 30 points, reaching double figures for the 22nd time in 23 regular season games. Gracie Merkle added 19 points and 20 rebounds for a double-double. Purdue had two chances at the end of overtime to tie the game, but both three-point attempts missed, and the Nittany Lions secured their first Big Ten win of the season.
Penn State will host Michigan State on Saturday (1pm on Big Ten Plus) and travel to Maryland on Thursday (7pm on Peacock).
