Former national champion praises Big Blue Nation after emotional Denim Night victory
Former Kentucky Wildcats guard Anthony Epps, a hometown hero from Marion County and a key member of the legendary 1995–96 “Untouchables” national championship team, shared powerful words on the radio following Kentucky’s 14-point comeback win over Tennessee on Saturday night at Rupp Arena.
Epps, who played for the Wildcats from 1993–97, watched as the current team brought back the iconic denim uniforms for the first time in 30 years, honoring the championship squad he helped lead. The night carried deep emotion for fans and former players alike, and Epps’ comments captured what Kentucky basketball means to the Commonwealth.
“I’m a Kentucky kid. This right here is what makes Kentucky basketball special,” Epps said after the memorable win. “A lot of you guys sitting at the very top get to come down after the game—it means so much to you, and it means so much to me… I just want to salute you guys.”
The Lebanon, Kentucky native continued with a heartfelt message to Big Blue Nation.
“Being a Kentucky kid, you guys make us what we are. Thirty years later, we can come into our palace and still get the same love. No matter what goes on the rest of the season, win or lose, stay on the wagon because this is going to be a great ride.”
Epps’ words are a reminder of Kentucky’s tradition and a rally to get behind the team as they enter the final stretch of the regular season.
