The start of the 2025 Formula 1 season is getting closer, and fans have just had their first look at Cadillac’s car for the year.

Cadillac revealed their new livery during the Super Bowl, taking advantage of one of the biggest sporting events in the country to grab attention.

Their entrance has already sparked a bit of a rivalry with Red Bull’s engine partner Ford, while Haas will also have something to say about claims that this is America’s team.

Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas are now fully focused on preparing for what could be a long season ahead.

Perez had a tough final year with Red Bull, while Bottas went through 2024 without scoring a single point for Sauber.

While it remains to be seen how competitive they’ll be in their debut campaign, many fans online have already drawn comparisons to Williams’ debut livery from decades ago – another bold blue design that ended up becoming an iconic part of Formula 1 history. The early reactions suggest Cadillac might be onto something visually. While we’re still weeks away from seeing how they stack up on track, their launch hasn’t gone unnoticed.

The one-minute spot aired during the game, with John F. Kennedy’s ‘We choose to go to the Moon’ speech playing in the background.

The advert built up to the reveal by simulating the process of designing and assembling an F1 car, before showing off an asymmetrical black-and-white design.

While Cadillac will be the only team running such a look this year, it’s not entirely new to Formula 1. BAR ran a similar style during their debut season.

“BAR has entered the chat,” one fan wrote. Another commented: “The boss said he wanted it to look like Merc or the old McLarens… The design team went with both.”

Fans didn’t seem put off by how different each side of the car looked, with comments like “Different on each side? Am I seeing that right?” matched by another post saying, “An asymmetric livery? I love it.”

Others drew similarities to past designs, with one post declaring: “It’s the 2026 version of the BAR01.” While another suggested it had a touch of class: “Looks classy, West McLaren type beat.”

The team had already taken the Ferrari power unit for a short filming run at Silverstone prior to heading to Spain.

After their testing at the Circuit de Catalunya, Bottas said it was “really valuable,” though he added: “We still have lots of problems to solve, and a bit of a mountain to climb, but we are getting there step by step.

“Each run, we’re getting better and more together as a team. Each run, we are solving issues and going forward, so that’s good.”

Perez has already shown his commercial value to Cadillac, but what the team really needs is his on-track experience and technical feedback as they try to make progress over the next year.

Perez shared his thoughts on Instagram regarding Cadillac’s new livery: “Let me introduce you to my @cadillacf1. Proud to represent all of America, proud to be Latino.”

BAR’s zip design first appeared in 1999 but was banned because both cars are required to look identical. Originally, Jacques Villeneuve and Ricardo Zonta had mirrored versions of the design.

Cadillac will be hoping for a stronger start than BAR managed back then. The team didn’t score any points in its debut season, with Villeneuve finishing only four of the 16 races after retiring from the first 11 Grand Prix of the year.
