Keenan Allen headlines the list of in-house free agents for the Chargers this offseason.
The Chargers had one of the highest totals of available cap space this time last year and still chose to play it somewhat reserved by avoiding any massive free agent contracts. Middle-cost, high-reward signings like running back Najee Harris and Mekhi Becton backfired fiercely, while some of their cheapest signings would up playing larger than expected roles (Da’Shawn Hand, LB Del’Shawn Phillips).
Now in a similar boat, it will be interesting to see if general manager Joe Hortiz will be more willing to put his money where his mouth is. The Patriots spent and spent and spent last year and they are coming off an appearance in the Super Bowl one season after having a top-five pick and missing the playoffs.
There is certainly a chance for the Chargers to make waves in 2026, but they’ll have to be smart, savvy, and willing to take a risk this March.
But for now, let’s get acquainted with the team’s in-house free agents who are set to hit the market when the new league year begins.
